Nutrition Services are available to current UA students by appointment at The University of Akron’s Student Recreation & Wellness Center and are provided by a Registered, Licensed Dietitian.
Nutrition Assessment/Initial Consultation
Assessment/initial consultation includes: food/nutrition, weight and medical history; height, weight measurements, and other assessments to determine the nature and causes of nutrition-related problems. A nutrition diagnosis will be determined and then client-focused interventions planned and goals set with the student. ($20)
30 Minute Follow Up Consultation
Follow up consultations provides on-going support to meet the student's nutrition needs. ($15)
Meal Planning
A 2 week menu of meals is created based on your current nutritional status and goals. ($50) Note: Nutrition Assessment is a prerequisite to this service.
Wellness Screenings
The following existing Wellness Services relate to nutritional status and may be scheduled with the dietitian.
MedGem (resting metabolic rate) Screening
Measures the amount of calories you burn at a resting state. The information can be used to design a plan to assist with weight management. ($20) Students may also opt to use the Nutrition Center’s Metabolic Cart and other in-depth assessments.
Osteoporosis Screening
Measures bone density at the heel bone using ultrasound technology. This screening may be particularly useful for students concerned about their calcium consumption. ($12)
Blood Lipid Profile Screening
Screens for total cholesterol, LDL (“bad” cholesterol), HDL (“good” cholesterol), triglycerides, and glucose. ($30)

The Nutrition Center
Offers services to UA faculty/staff and is located in Shrank Hall South Room 210. SRWS non-student members receive a 25% discount on services! Visit www.uakron.edu and search for nutrition or call 330-972-2836 for more information.
Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)
Students with a medical diagnosis such as diabetes, hypertension, renal disease, or eating disorder require more in-depth individualized nutrition assessment, diagnosis and intervention and are therefore seen at The Nutrition Center.
Partners in Nutrition
Dining Services is offering a new FREE service to student, faculty and staff dining plan participants through the University Nutrition Center. For more information, consult your dining plan brochure or call 330-972-2836.
