What to do Prior to a Wellness Screening
It's called the new vital sign in weight loss, weight gain, or weight management, as well as fitness. It's a portable device called the MedGem. It measures the amount of calories you burn at your most rested state. That can help you, your doctor or dietician design a plan to control your weight. The device is placed over your mouth for about ten minutes to measure your oxygen consumption to determine your resting metabolic rate.
The cost of this procedure is $20 for students and $25 for faculty and staff. In order to make an appointment for metabolic testing, please call Wellness Services at 330-972-6599 or stop into the Wellness Suite, SRWC 107.

An accurate knowledge of body composition is an essential tool in the effort to educate the public about risk factors and health. Body composition tests actually measure body fatness, not weight.
Two tests are offered; skinfold calipers and Futrex. Skinfold calipers assess the thickness of fat under the skin by measuring up to eight sites on the body. The Futrex analyzer uses infrared light to estimate your percent body fat in less than 60 seconds. An advantage to this testing method is that there are little restrictions of fasting, removal of clothing, or time of day.
The cost of each of these procedures is $5 for both students and faculty/staff. In order to make a body composition appointment, please call Wellness Services at 330-972-6599 or stop into the Wellness Suite, SRWC 107.
According to recent estimates, one in four U.S. adults has high blood pressure, but because there are no symptoms, nearly one-third of these people don't know they have it. In fact, many people have high blood pressure for years without knowing it. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure or kidney failure. This is why high blood pressure is often called the "silent killer." The only way to tell if you have high blood pressure is to have your blood pressure checked regularly.
Blood pressure testing is complimentary and no appointment is necessary.
