Services Division
The services division, under the supervision of Captain Jim Weber is responsible for Special Events on campus, Departmental and On Campus Training, Crime Prevention and the Community and Housing Oriented Policing Division also known as CHOP. Reporting to Captain Weber is Lieutenant Cunningham who directly supervises the day to day operations of this very busy unit. If not interacting with residence hall students and staff, the members of this unit could be found giving an orientation talk, presenting an ALICE program to members of the community, reviewing a student's off campus housing for crime prevention measures or preparing to host a special event from 30 to 30,000 people.
Special Events Planning
With new stadiums on campus for football and soccer and with events like the King James Shooting Stars Classic AAU Tournament, the annual Alcoholics Anonymous Founders Day Celebration, the Akron Marathon, local area High School graduations, proms and after proms, weddings, concerts, student events, political and celebrity visitations, coordination of special events becomes a complex and mission critical task. Having the right numbers of officers in the right place to assure a smoothly operating event is our departments goal. Services division members spend long hours attending meetings planning and coordinating efforts with on campus and off campus departments to prepare for these events. To assure that our department has an adequate number of officers available, UAPD maintains arrangements with the City of Akron Police Department, the Summit County Sheriffs Office, the Orville Police Department and the State Highway Patrol as well as all State Universities within the state of Ohio.

Orientation/Crime Prevention Talks
Enrolled freshman are scheduled to attend orientation sessions where our segment presents crime prevention tips and techniques that are unique to the college experience. Methods of interacting with our department are also presented such as the Departmental Survey and the "Drop a Line on Crime" page where students can report a hazard or tip page.
A.L.I.C.E. Training
A.L.I.C.E stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. This nationally renowned training was developed after post event examination of shootings such as the one that occured April 20th, 1999 at Columbine High School in Colorado. UAPD has adopted the program and has trained over 8,000 student and staff members, teaching the proactive measures that people can take when faced with an assailant entering a building or classroom.
