Cruisers
In early 2006 UAPD cruisers went "on-line" utilizing Motorola mobile data terminals that were being replaced by the City of Akron Police Department. Although older equipment, it is still highly functional providing UAPD officers the ability to "run" a persons license plate from the cruiser without having to interact with a dispatcher. The data terminals also offer the officers the ability to text message not only other UAPD cruisers but cruisers from the City of Akron police department as well as the Summit County Sheriff's office as well. This inter-departmental communication is critical as our departments work together not only during special events but often on a daily basis. UAPD Cruisers are not only equipped with computers but they are also equipped with many other necessary items such as fire extinguishers and AED devices.
