Dispatch
The University of Akron Police department maintains a 24 hour 7 day a week dispatch center. The dispatch center is the nerve center of the University police department. The dispatch center monitors the phone calls and radio traffic in the department. It also monitors all alarms (fire, smoke, burglary, panic). Dispatchers use Cisco Public Safety Software to record information and dispatch officers.  Dispatchers have access to Division of Motor Vehicle information for Police business through the L.E.A.D.S computer system. The dispatch center has an off hours fax machine (330-972-8536) and a TDD machine for communication with the hearing impaired . After 4pm the Police dispatch takes on the added responsibility of handling Physical Facilities Dispatching. Work orders and calls for repairs both emergency and non emergency, are handled by University Police Dispatch. After 5pm University Police dispatchers also handle the responsibility of answering University Operator lines. Dispatching is a tough and demanding job. The old saying of "when it rains, it pours" describes the dispatch job. Phones ringing, officers calling on the radio, it all seems to happen at once. The job requires highly trained and competent personnel. The University of Akron Police department works hard to maintain a trained and competent staff of Police dispatchers.
