Computer Software
Computer Aided Dispatch and Police Records
The University of Akron Police Department utilizes Cisco Public Safety Software for it's Computer Aided Dispatching and Records Management Software (CAD/RMS). With over 40 agencies within the State of Ohio utilizing the software and with the bid price being the lowest, Cisco was the best choice for our department. UAPD is currently running Cisco version 11. As part of the Homeland Security initiative, Cisco Public Safety Software enables UAPD to be a part of the Ohio Local Law Enforcement Information Sharing Network (OLLEISN) .
Network Operating Systems and Groupware
UAPD has utilized Novell Netware since 1996. Novell has long been recognized as one of the premier network
operating systems with strong security and high reliability. In addition to a strong Operating System, Novell also provides open source solutions which UAPD utilitzes such as an Apache Web Server and MySQL database. UAPD also maintains a Groupwise in house email server which keeps all internal documents encrypted and provides internal workgroup functionality for email, scheduling, task routing and resource management.
Workstation Operating Systems
UAPD workstations all utilitze Windows XP Professional software. As part of the University licensing
agreement, UAPD enjoys the benefits in lower software costs that are offered to educational institutions. Workstations are also equiped with the latest version of Microsoft Office. Several copies of Corel Wordperfect are also licensed for secretarial personnel who are comfortable with Wordperfect.
Website Design Software
This site was greated with GlobalScape's CuteSITE Builder. Being a one man IT department, UAPD needs to do more with less. CuteSITE builder does the formating, coding and ftp uploads quickly and convieniently allowing IT to work on content and graphics.
Graphics are customized using Adobe Photoshop CS while the intro animation was created using SWiSHhMax from SWiSHZone.
In-House Software Development
Several pieces of software have been developed for UAPD use, using the Delphi 7 rapid application development tool. Perhaps the largest of these applications is Cyber Sergeant. Cyber Sergeant is a data collection and disemination program designed to collect data that was generally available only on the roll call sergeants desk such as: the daily log, officers schedules, overtime assignments, court dates and more. Having more than one station, UAPD needed to have this information available at any workstation and with Cyber Sergeant it is. Another in house program is UAPD's Official Call-off Records And Printing program or OCRAP for short. OCRAP allows dispatchers to quickly enter information on an employees call off with only several fields of information recorded such as the employee, the caller, who the supervisor is and why they are off. Call off time, date and a record number are created automatically and a call off slip is printed. Later a roster can be printed of the days call offs. OCRAP is quick and efficient and has reduced the number of dispatch errors in recording of employee calloffs. Other software developed include:
Angies Range Ranger - Software to schedule and bill for UAPD's firing range.
Training Reservation Taker - Software to schedule training, do billing, certificates and rosters for classes sponsored by UAPD.
UA Lockup - Workorder generation program for UA Locking Systems
Underdevelopment are:
Trips - A program that will record training requests from the time of inception through completion, including background scheduling info.
AssignME- An overtime assignment program to replace the current DOS software.
UAKeys- A database of Keys issued by UAPD's Locking Systems currently on DOS software.
