| Rationale: | |
| The History Department has traditionally not assigned prequisites to its upper-division courses. With the addition of new faculty, however, some 400-level courses have been given prerequisites while the majority remains without them. The Department now wishes to assign prerequisites across the board (1) in the interests of consistency, and (2) in the interests of students who should have enough college-level training to succeed in upper-division History courses. The only upper-division History courses not affected by this change are 3400: 310, Historical Methods, 3400: 392: Internships in History, 3400, and 3400: 492: Honors Project: History. Historical Methods, a foundational course in the discipline, should remain without a prerequisite to encourage students to enroll early in their careers. The last two courses, directed primarily to History majors, specify an extensive background in History as essential to student success. | |
