Effective fall 2010, all students entering the Master of Science in Statistics degree program will be required to present their approved Thesis or Statistics Master's Paper in a colloquium to faculty and other students.

Rationale:
Having students present the work they do in the Thesis or Statistics Master's Paper will enhance the preparation and understanding of the candidate and provide educational opportunities for other students and the faculty. Such presentations will help other students see what kind of research is done and give them ideas on how to do their own work.
Bulletin description:
NOTE: Assumes AS-10-84 is approved to eliminate comprehensive exams and replace with a 3470:689 Advanced Topics in Statistics course).

• Entrance into the program will require the initial completion of the following prerequisites:
Three semesters of calculus or equivalent
One semester of Linear Algebra or equivalent.
One semester of Applied Statistics or equivalent.

Thesis requirements (30 credits of graduate work)
In addition to the core curriculum, students must take 3 credits in 3470:689 Advanced Topics in Statistics, 2-4 credits in 3470:699 Master’s Thesis and 7-9 other approved elective graduate credit hours must be completed. Upon approval of the thesis by the student's Advisor and Reader, the thesis must be presented in a colloquium to faculty and students.

Nonthesis requirements (33 credits of graduate work)
In addition to the core curriculum,2-4 credits in 3470:692 Statistics Master's Paper and 13-15 other approved elective graduate credit hours must be completed. Upon approval of the Statistics Master's Paper by the student's Advisor and Reader, the paper must be presented in a colloquium to faculty and students. The Statistical Computer Science option requirements may be applied toward the elective courses.
