| Brief Summary of Proposal | The Department of Geography and Planning proposes to change the title of its BS in Geography/Cartography degree.
Current: BS in Geography/Cartography
Proposed: BS in Geography/Geographic Information Sciences
This change in title will: (1) reflect significant changes in practice and terminology in the field of geography that have incorporated geographic information systems, remote sensing, and cartography under the rubric of "Geographic Information Sciences," (2) better reflect the nature of the education that students currently receive in the BS degree, and (3) reflect recent changes to the department's certificate and minor programs.
