| Brief Summary of Proposal | This is a proposal for a new course, 7400:450 Families, Individuals and Environments, that will constitute 3 of the 4 required credits for the core of Family and Consumer Sciences. AAFCS Accreditation recommendations included reducing the required credits of the core of Family and Consumer Sciences by consolidating the course material within one course. This change effectively changes the core requirements from 11 to 4 credits, providing flexibility for the individual programs within Family and Consumer Sciences to meet their individual and professional accreditation requirements while at the same time offering the potential for reducing the credit loads for the students. Credit loads were necessarily beyond the minimum level established by The University of Akron. This change will allow the individual programs to be more competitive on a state and national level. No added resources will be necessary as fewer sections of the current core courses will need to be offered. Faculty will absorb the teaching of this new course within their teaching load. |
