| Brief Summary of Proposal | The Behavioral Health Nursing Nurse Practitioiner track in the Master's in Nursing program will be renamed to Advanced Practice Psychiatric Mental health Nursing to reflect contemporary practices in Nursing. The changes are based on Essentials of Graduate Education, Scope and Standards of Practice, State Boards of Nursing Title Recognition guidelines and national certification requirements. The proposed revision in curriculum will include the theoretical and evidenced-based knowledge and skills and clinical practicum hours necessary to sit for certification in the specialty and subsequently be certified as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Structural changes include separation of the theoretical content from the clinical practicum in 8200:699 Practicum: Behavioral Health Nursing to be consistent with the other courses offered in the track. This change facilitates graduate student progression and allows flexibility in scheduling for working nurses. The assessment course will focus on mental health and a revision of the organization and focus of Behavioral Health I, II, III, and IV is included. |
