| Brief Summary of Proposal | The goal of the course is to develop greater awareness of and appreciation for Québec as one of the Francophone provinces, and to increase the students’ command of French. The students will learn about the history of Québec and about major ideological currents and political crises that have shaped its identity. The course concentrates on issues of language, culture, recent immigration and ethnicity. Through close analysis of the mass media, popular music, and especially literary works and classics of the Québécois cinéma, the students will discuss the contemporary problems facing Québec and its place, as one of the major francophone regions, in today’s globalized culture.
Concurrently an undergraduate equivalent course has been submitted; see AS-08-014. |
