Brief Summary of ProposalThis proposal is designed for the working registered nurse (RN) in hospitals, nursing homes, or other community agencies who need further prepartion in the care of elder patients/clients to sit for the national certification examination-Gerontological Nurse Certification Exam or who need college credit. Health care systems are requiring registered nurses who do not have master's degrees to sit for the Gerontological Generalist Certification Examination. This series of three courses will prepare working RNs to assess manage and implement health care to meet the specialized needs of older adults and evaluate the effectiveness of this care. Registered nurses who complete the three courses will be eligible to sit for the national Gerontological Nurse Certification Exam through American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC.
