Brief Summary of ProposalAdd a new course entitled "Mechanical Behavior of Nanostructured Materials and Composites". The course is considered as a graduate elective in ME. This course introduces the emerging science and engineering, together with the instrumentation often required to examine mechanical behaviors at the nanometer length scale. It also serves as an introductory course to nanotechnology in the engineering discipline. The course focuses on nanostructured materials and composites. It trains students to develop an understanding of the materials physics of nanostructured materials, analytical techniques and processing methods. Examples and projects will be derived from carbon nanotubes, electrospun nanofibers, nanocrystaline materials, electron microscopy (SEM, TEM, STEM), atomic force microscopy, nanoidentation, polymer- and bio-MEMS and deformation of nanoscrystalline materials.
