| ED-04-39 | Qualitative Methods I and II | Ed Foun & L | Program changes | 2004, Fall | Final Approval Granted 12/28/2004 | no | 11/08/2004 |
| Proposal Summary: | This proposal seeks to institutionalize Qualitative Methods I and II as their own courses, as opposed to offering them as a Special Topics course (5100:801). The proposal creates additional research course offerings for doctoral students. This change will provide benefits to the College and to our students. First, students from other colleges and universities will be able to clearly identify what we have to offer in terms of qualitative coursework and we will hopefully gain additional students as a result. More and more students are incorporating qualitative methods and analysis in their doctoral work, and a clear articulation of the strong program we provide will attract them. Second, this proposal will benefit students in that their transcripts will now show the depth and breadth of the qualitative coursework they have, as opposed to having several sections of a Special Topics course listed. The Special Topics course can continue to be used for specialized topics in qualitative research or for even more advanced study. | ||||||

| WC-04-01 | Web-based delivery for 2530:243 Medical Coding & 2530:244 Medical Insurance Billing | Wayne | Course changes only | 2004, Spring | Final Approval Granted 03/16/2004 | yes | 02/09/2004 |
| Proposal Summary: | This is a proposal for delivery of 2530:243 Medical Coding and 2530:244 Medical Insurance Billing in an on-line, web-based format. Our students have numerous concerns in their lives: work responsibilities, family obligations, social commitments, and community involvement. We know from experience that many have had difficulty in scheduling classes, or may not be able to take a specific course during the desired semester. Web-based courses can accommodate many of the issues that may restrict students from otherwise attending a traditional classroom and advancing their studies.
Web-based instruction also presents an opportunity to serve a new market segment of students in the health care office management field. Individuals not currently able to attend traditional classes due to the demands of the employment may very well start their associate degree program via the Web with these proposed courses. There is no difference between the academic content of the traditional version of the courses and the proposed web-based versions. Expected learning outcomes are the same for both web and classroom-based courses. Various web technologies will be utilized. These include e-mail, discussion lists, threaded discussions, and automated testing procedures.
| WC-04-02 | 260001 Computer Service and Network Technology | Wayne | Program changes | 2004, Fall | Proposal Withdrawn 11/23/2004 | 01/22/2004 | |
| Proposal Summary: | Change of department/program title to Computer Network Engineering Technology. Changes in program requirements, General Bulletin description and course description and/or prerequisite are included.
The program currently features two computer network engineering tracks that lead to the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and the Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) credentials. Most students select this program based on the fact that it offers the network engineering coursework required to pass the rigorous certification exams required by both Microsoft and Novell. These are the two most recognized computer network engineering tracks, but new computer network operating systems, such as Linux, are on the horizon. This curriculum change reflects the computer network engineering focus of the program and allows students more freedom in selecting courses and developing their career competencies and associated certifications. It also allows the flexibility for the program to evolve by developing new courses in response to industry changes. Since new courses can be developed within the guidelines of special topic courses, it also allows for timely response to industry changes. Finally, it will simplify program management by not requiring constant curriculum changes as the computer network engineering industry changes.
