| AS-09-029 | Descriptive Astronomy | Physics | Course changes only | 2009, Spring | Final Approval Granted 02/12/2009 | no | 12/17/2008 |
| Proposal Summary: | The proposal reflects the addition of required two-hour scheduled lab sections to the existing course, as agreed upon at a meeting between GEAC and physics department representatives, and as described in the GEAC report of May, 2008. The Descriptive Astronomy course is offered at both the main and Wayne campus. Due to the large enrollment at the main campus several two-hour lab sections will be added at various times to ensure all students are able to attend. We anticipate 8 sections will be needed and have scheduled the labs for the Spring 2009 semester, conditional upon a favorable review of this proposal. These labs will be taught by graduate assistants under direct supervision of the course instructor, and scheduled in the physics department's Gen-Ed lab (Ayer 110). Existing course fees revenue will be sufficient to cover the cost of lab materials and the CAS Dean's office has agreed to provide stipend support for an additional GA to assist in the labs. Since there are fewer students at the Wayne campus, correspondingly fewer sections will be needed and they will be run by the instructor instead. Additional lab activities which will be performed in the lab periods are listed in the syllabus. | ||||||
