	Proposal Summary:	Through the reading of the most representative theater plays and the analysis of operas and movies, which elaborate on the Don Juan myth, students will analyze the main characteristics that are present in the original myth (already established in the 14th century in the "romancero") and the later transformations it undergoes during the following centuries. The course will serve also as an introduction to the fundamentals of literary criticism and analysis of different genres of literature: narrative, drama and essay. As the lectures and class discussions will be exclusively in Spanish the student will be given the opportunity to improve the four language skills.

	Proposal Summary:	This course will examine the military dictatorships of the seventies and eighties in Argentina and Uruguay. During the semester, we will look at the different ways in which these repressive governments affected cultural production and expression. During the semester we will have access to a variety of cultural artifacts (political speeches, essays, movies, documentaries, interviews, short stories, theater, novels and rock music) from this particular time period that will allow us to explore the "cultural politics" and the "politics of culture" of the River Plate. Class time will consist of lectures, discussions and student presentations. Outside work will involve readings from a course pack that will supplement the works of authors Mario Benedetti, Alicia Partnoy, Marta Traba and Luisa Valenzuela. In addition, students will be expected to write position papers for every reading assignment.

	Proposal Summary:	All manufacturing processes involve motion and control which may range from simple use of pneumatic cylinders in robotics to coordinated motion and sequence control in assembly lines. Mechanical engineers work in the design, production, and marketing of a full spectrum of motion and control components and systems to provide force, motion and control for industrial machinery and equipment. The leading companies, such as Parker Hannifin, Allen Bradley, and Bailey Controls are within fifty miles from The University of Akron and scattered around them there are several medium-capital companies serving the local industry on motion and control applications. The technology in motion and control grows and changes at a pace that makes systems of less than five years almost obsolete. The primary purpose of the motion and control certificate program is to provide the graduating engineers with a focused expertise in motion and control and to furnish the necessary tools in order to enable them to follow the changes in technology after graduation. In addition, the program will also serve the practicing engineers and life-long learners to come back to school and refresh their skills using the certificate program proposed here. Mechanical engineering students who may choose this certificate program with special emphasis in motion and control will take all mechanical engineering electives in motion and control related courses.

Student groups included in this proposal include new high school graduates, new students with no prior college work who completed high school at least two years ago, transfers, post-baccalaureate, and all LPNs and RNs returning to school. Increased support services would be provided by the College for this student population including academic advising. This change would enhance the College's recruitment, retention and enrollment management initiatives. Direct admission criteria for each of the student groups are contained in the proposal. Direct admit students in the College of Nursing will be classified as "prenursing". Students not meeting direct admit criteria will be admitted to University College and will be classified as "intended nursing majors". "Intended nursing majors" would have the opportunity for direct admit from University College once certain criteria are achieved. Direct admission criteria from University College are contained in the proposal. Eligible "intended nursing majors" in University College and "prenursing" students in the College of Nursing will be considered for admission to the nursing major at the end of each Spring semester according to current admission procedures. This proposal does not change current admission criteria or procedures for the nursing major. The electronic spreadsheet’s ability to analyze and evaluate information in a wide array of business situations and environments will be more valuable to these students.
