Applied Cognitive Aging
Program Options

M.A.-Ph.D. and Ph.D.

The M.A.-Ph.D. and Ph.D. program options emphasize applied research and practical experience. Students collaborate actively with one or more faculty members on projects focused on cognitive approaches to aging. Students are typically expected to devote full-time effort to their graduate studies. Active research involvements and publication, along with practical experience in the field, provide a base for movement into both applied and academic positions after program completion.

M.A. thesis and M.A. nonthesis

The M.A. thesis option is designed for students planning further graduate work; the M.A. nonthesis option provides professional training for students who do not wish to pursue the Ph.D. The character of student training in both options is similar to that of the Ph.D. program. The thesis option requires a research masters thesis; the nonthesis option substitutes a practicum experience for the thesis. Fewer classes are taken by students in these options than by Ph.D. students, and the depth of research training and practical experience is somewhat less than in the doctoral program as well.
