Dr. Weigold received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Texas Tech University in December 2007 and joined the faculty at The University of Akron in August 2008. Her theoretical orientation is humanistic, although she also draws from CBT, interpersonal, and feminist therapy when working with clients. She teaches graduate courses in Research Design, Theories of Counseling & Psychotherapy, and Issues in Sexuality for Counselors. Her research interests are centered on college student development, particularly how positive psychology influences career exploration, student retention, anxiety, and psychological distress. Recent journal outlets include Journal of Counseling Psychology, Sex Roles, and Journal of Psychological Inquiry.
