ISM Dues
Increase Membership Vote – Official Ballot In August 2004, the ISM Board of Directors approved an
increase in ISM national annual dues. The ISM Regular Member dues will increase by $10 to $155 per year for an
NAPM Akron membership. The increase is based on a review by the ISM Board of Directors of ISM's financial position and strategic plan at the May
2003 and August 2003 meetings. Your voting approval of this increase will allow NAPM
Akron to retain it's current portion of the overall dues of $55; otherwise, we would have to absorb the entire $10
increase. Your Board recommends this increase and urges a “yes’ vote from you today. Click here to vote YES!! (VOTE
YES) Click here to vote NO!! (VOTE
NO) In the unlikely event of a
‘lack of response’ to this vote, a non reply may be considered a vote
in support of your Board
recommendation which favors the $10 dues increase. You may
vote now by clicking one of the desired choices above or by going to our web
site. Voting ends at noon
on Monday, November 8, 2004. |

IMPORTANT NEWS
REGARDING A.P.P. CERTIFICATION
ISM
has announced a change to professional designation of A.P.P. After February 28, 2005, ISM will no
longer accept new exam registrations
for the Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.) designation. Those
individuals who have registered prior to March 1, 2005, will
have up to one year to take their exams. If they are interested in securing
A.P.P. Original/Original Lifetime accreditation, they will need to
apply by February 28, 2007. Individuals already holding the A.P.P.
designation may still apply for re-accreditation. The
reason for this decision was two fold.
The interest in the A.P.P. designation was diminishing in the supply
chain community and ISM decided that the resources allocated to
the program could be used to strengthen other programs. The
A.P.P. will still be recognized and honored within the supply management
profession. ISM
will send communications to all A.P.P. professionals, and the ISM Web site
will continue to offer detailed information on all Certification resources
at www.ism.ws/Certification/index.cfm. Contact ISM Certification at certification@ism.ws
or 800/888-6276, extension 3027. |

Being Somebody By Jim
Burand C.P.M. - Membership Chair In the
1954 movie “On the Waterfront”, Marlon Brando’s
character says the famous line “I could a been
somebody!” We all at
some point in our lives start out wanting to be somebody. Who is this somebody? Some of us may want to be President,
a professional athlete or a scientist who makes a discovery that saves
mankind. However, most of us quickly
realize that it
is not only beyond our reach but it is a bit too intimidating to be the focus
of all the attention. The
"somebody" that most
of us would like to be is the one who makes the world a bit better. Somebody who makes a contribution. Somebody who makes
a difference.
Somebody who is missed. However,
life has a way of subtly or not so subtly conditioning us to play it safe and
not make waves. Being somebody is not worth
risking our life or our job or our family. But, we can be conditioned to be
too cautious and then we run the risk of being a nobody. Being a nobody
would be bad enough by itself but it is made worse because when you are a
nobody you are depriving
others of the contribution that you can make.
The difference in someone’s life.
The difference that causes a ripple effect on
society. The difference that makes you
missed because peoples’ lives aren’t better off. How can
you counter act that conditioning to be a nobody? You can start by making a difference in
ways that are safe. Become more
active in your church or organizations like NAPM-Akron. Attend meetings, help at dinner meetings,
or become active on the
board. No one has risked their life,
job, or family by doing those things but they have made a difference and
become somebody. You will
make this a better place and you will be missed. |
