Jan was born and raised in Wadsworth, Ohio. She has been a Summit County resident since 1979.
Jan plays a variety of instruments. She played baritone horn in high school, but switched to stringed instruments after graduation. She started on guitar and moved to mountain dulcimer, banjo and little banjo ukes. She has a fiddle, but can barely screech out a tune or two on it.
She doesn't make it to MUS meetings or gigs very often and couldn't say how long ago she joined.
She's won a number of awards for her playing. The most recent was a First Place finish at the 2006 Mid-Eastern Regional Dulcimer Championships in Coshocton, Ohio. She was the 2005 Kentucky State Dulcimer Champion and a top five finalist at the national competition in Winfield, KS.
She has an amazing fingerstyle guitar partner, Tom Conner with whom she plays library and coffee house performances. They are currently working on a duet CD, which will be out the summer of '06.
She's taught a few workshops at the Buckeye Dulcimer Festival and designed their festival t-shirt for eight years.
She volunteers by playing mountain dulcimer every week at a local nursing home.
