Sylvia White

Sylvia was born and raised in Groton, CT. She moved to Ohio in 1978 to study at the Ohio State University and is a rabid Ohio State Football fan. After teaching in Illinois, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, she returned to Ohio in 1993 to take a job at the University of Akron.

She started playing the mountain dulcimer in 1996 (after looking at one hanging on the wall for about 10 years - with no clue how to even tune the darn thing).

She joined Mixed-Up Strings in 1998 and is the club's Web Master.

She is married to Jim Ellison (no relation to the Jim Ellison who is married to Margie Ellison...) and has three geriatric cats.

"My number one goal in life is to retire from my job so I can spend more time with my hobbies."

Jim Ellison

Jim was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, and has just moved to Canal Fulton. As a United Methodist Minister, he tends to migrate a lot, so he and Sylvia are keeping two houses for the duration.

Jim started playing the mountain dulcimer in 2000. He also plays bowed psaltry a little. He teaches mountain dulcimer to his church youth groups and looks forward to being near enough to Summit County to play with Mixed-Up Strings.

Jim has a grown son and two over-grown cats.
