Co-curricular Opportunities

Aside from an outstanding education, graduate students have the opportunity to gain professional experience in their area of interest.

There are a variety of student organizations in which students can network and gain invaluable contacts in the area. The Public Relations Student Society of America, the Association for Women in Communications, the Akron Film Festival and the independent film group 2380 are a few of the groups in which graduate students in the School of Communication participate.

If broadcasting is your career aim, graduate students may work with WZIP-FM, the university’s award-winning radio station, or the Emmy-award winning ZTV or Students may also have the opportunity to work in broadcasting right on campus. WZIP-FM and ZTV are both operated by students on the University of Akron’s campus.

Graduate students may also complete a one-to-six hour internship. In the past, students had landed internships at MTV, NBC, various public relations agencies, corporations and non-profits across the country.
