April in Akron....

If it's April in Akron, it can only mean one thing -- film festivals.

From April 3 to 6, the Akron Independent Film Festival will showcase five features and 34 shorts from 16 different countries at the Bang and Clatter Theatre in the Summit ArtSpace Building (140 E. Market St., Akron). Many of the shorts were filmed in Northeast Ohio. Tickets are $8 for a feature or shorts program, $10 for a one-day pass and $24 for a full-festival pass and are available at the festival's website. (A ticket from the festival gets a reduced rate for the April 6 showing of Martin's Scoresese's documentary on the Rolling Stones, "Shine a Light," at the Civic Theatre.)

On April 25-26, the 2380 Project presents its Third Annual Film Festival at the Student Union Gardner Theater on campus. Opening night features "Heavenly Claws," a film by Nicholas Scott, president of 2380. The group will accept submissions for the festival until April 18 at the School of Communication Office, Kolbe Hall Rm. 110. For additional information, access the project's website.
