SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT REPORT
As indicated in your
syllabus, you must turn in a Project Proposal in
order to do your project; the project will not be graded unless a proposal has
been submitted and accepted by the instructor.
Your service
learning project report must be turned in no later than the due ate (see
syllabus).
Include the following
information in your report:
- Name of Agency, address, supervisor
name, and contact information
- Learning Objectives (as stated in your
proposal—but use past tense since you have completed the project)
- Summary of Service Hours with
Reflection
Example:
March 8, 2006, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Again, I had the wonderful opportunity of teaching English grammar. A
teacher didn’t show up, and Bernie showed no hesitation in sending me to teach.
The two men I taught
were both from South America. They did not
want to learn from a book, but rather have a conversation. When one had trouble
understanding me in English, the other student started speaking Spanish or
Portuguese. Because of my background in Spanish, I was able to talk with them
and help them out when they needed translation…
TOTAL 20 hours
- Information About Agency - Describe the
agency (its mission, what it does, who it serves, where it’s located,
etc.). Include information such as
background of supervisor/contact, number of years in operation,
collaborative efforts with other agencies, etc. as applicable. In addition to your description, you can
attach informational handouts or flyers provided by the agency if you
like.
- Evaluation - REFER BACK TO YOUR
LEARNING OBJECTIVES AS STATED ON YOUR PROPOSAL. Give your reaction to your
service learning experience, including a reflection on how well you
achieved your own learning objectives. If you learned more than
anticipated, include all that you feel you learned. To receive maximum points on this section, refer back to at least
one theory or perspective discussed in class or in readings that will help
you to understand human development and family relations from a cultural
perspective. Use that theory to understand the clients you worked with or
your reaction to them. You may also use your theoretical perspective to
understand/evaluate the effectiveness of the program. Write a minimum
of four typed, double-spaced pages for this section. Can also
discuss how rewarding you found the experience, why you think the
organization is especially beneficial for the population it serves, what
might be changed about the organization or its services to make it more
effective, and whether you feel you gained an understanding of the
cultural nature of human development because of your service experience.
Total page
requirement = 8-10 pages for all the above sections (not including attached
form). You must include a signed Service Learning Form
when you turn in your written project report. Failure to do so will result in a
grade of zero (0) for the project. The entire report must be double spaced
throughout, with no extra spacing between paragraphs. Please number your
pages.
