HM Life Opportunity Services is a Transitional Housing program for single parent families and their children.  Typically our families were in homeless shelters prior to coming into our program. Our biggest goal for our families is self sufficiency, and we give our participants help to obtain that.  As the Youth Service Coordinator I spend all of my time with the children in these families.  We tutor, have an enrichment program, summer field trips and etc.  Also, I do have case sessions with mothers of young babies and toddlers to make sure all is well and they are on the right track.   CONTACT: Shannon Collins, Youth Services Coordinator, H.M. KON Internship Opportunities


Military/Extension Internship Program -

A new initiative and partnership between the Cooperative Extension System and the Department of Defense  has provided the funding for a national, military childcare/youth development internship program. Through this initiative, students and recent graduates will have the opportunity to develop professional skills in childcare and youth development through practical work experience with military children, youth, and families.  Interns’ compensation will include travel to and from the internship site and housing for the duration of the placement. Interns will be placed on military installations across the United States. Oriana House Inc. has new placements for interns. We are starting a family program for families of our clients and we would like to provide structured activities to their children. We are in need of students who have hours available for at least an entire semester or more. These students would help develop an activities curriculum for children ages 3-17. The placement would start at the beginning of the Fall Semester and there is necessary paperwork that each student would need to fill out in order to intern at our agency.

Project R.I.S.E. (Realizing Individual Strength through Education)  is looking for interns or volunteers to provide enrichment activities for the young children residing in Akron shelters. They are looking to find people to provide 30-45 minutes of enrichment for the students once a month during a monthly event called Parents RISEing usually held at Family Ties on 682 E.
