Biography: DaNeen Harrison-Coats is a second year PhD student (first year with the Department of Sociology). She completed an undergraduate degree in Sociology: Criminology and Law Enforcement at the University of Akron in 2006. She began her graduate studies with the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies (PAUS), receiving a master's degree, in 2008, in public administration with emphasis in non-profit management. With an enduring passion for sociology, she decided to return this field as a researcher and pursue a career as a tenure-track professor. DaNeen intends to focus her research in areas that investigates racial inequalities, particularly Colorism "the discriminatory treatment of individuals falling within the same 'racial' group on the basis of skin color" and its impact on relationships and status attainment.
