Biography:
Suzanne Slusser is currently researching cross-national gender inequality and gender empowerment. She is particularly interested in exploring the impact of the global economy. Her research investigates the applicability of dependency and world systems theories on gender inequality. In addition to this project Suzanne (with co-investigators Aya, Kimura, Marianne Noh, John Zipp) is currently studying the experiences of graduate student instructors. The focus of this research is an exploration of the differing experiences of international and US born graduate students. Finally, Suzanne is involved in two projects exploring gender and mass media. The first project, with Rachel Stein, examines how female offenders are portrayed in the top 50 movies of 2002. The second paper, with Shawna Rohrman, explores how women are portrayed in advertisements of a popular women’s magazine from 1956-2006.
