Ohio Legislative Black Caucus South Africa Trade Mission

August 20-29, 2000

 

Day 1 - Monday, August 21st: Cape Town

11:00a.m.    Arrival at Cape International Airport via Delta Airlines Flight 212

ˇ     Process through customs, baggage claim, etc.

 12:00p.m.   Travel to Victoria and Alfred Hotel

 1:00p.m.     Check into hotel

 2:00p.m.     Short general informational briefing before lunch with:

Mr. Larry Farris, Principal Commercial Officer, US Embassy

Mrs. MaryBeth Leonard, Commercial Officer, US Embassy

Louis Kasuyi , Managing Director, Ohio Southern Africa Trade Office

Ms. Corne Greyling, Atlas Tours, African Travel

 2:30p.m.     Lunch at hotel

 3:15p.m.     Delegates may choose to spend free time at the hotel or an optional tour of Table Mountain, Champs Bay, Hout Bay and Constantia

7:30p.m.     Dinner at the Waterfront Café, Victoria and Alfred Hotel

9:00p.m.     Evening entertainment in Champs Bay

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 2 - Tuesday, August 22nd: Cape Town

7:00a.m.     Breakfast

9:00a.m.     Travel to Cape Town Legislative Building

9:30a.m.      Legislative Building tour/meetings with:

US Consul General to meet with

Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Frene Ginwala

Minister of Finance or Representative

Minister of Housing or Representative

Representative of Minister of Education

10:45a.m.     Board bus and travel to Riverside Primary School 

11:15a.m.      Riverside Primary School visit:

Klipfontein Rd., Athlone

12:00p.m.     Board bus and travel to Manenberg Secondary School

12:30 p.m.     Manenberg Secondary School visit:

Tugela Rd., Manenberg 

1:15p.m.     Board bus and travel to New Beginning Vineyard

2:00p.m.      New Beginning Vineyard tour & lunch

4:00p.m.     Board bus and travel to hotel

5:00p.m.     Free time at hotel 

6:30p.m.     Departure for dinner at The Africa Café  

7:00p.m.     Dinner at The Africa Café

Day 3 - Wednesday, August 23rd: Cape Town/Johannesburg

6:15a.m.     Breakfast and briefing by Dr. Fran Buntman at hotel (Delegates must collect all luggage to place on bus)

7:10a.m.     Board bus for departure to ferry for Robben Island

7:30a.m.     Board ferry for Robben Island Tour led by Mr. Ahmed Kathrad 

11:00a.m.    Lunch at Key Four at the Waterfront

12:00p.m.     Return from Robben Island and departure for the airport

2:00p.m.     Flight to Johannesburg via Delta Airlines Flight 326

3:55p.m.     Arrival in Johannesburg and transfer to Park Hyatt Hotel in Rosebank 

6:00p.m.     Pretoria Ground Show

8:00p.m.     Board bus 

8:30p.m.     Board bus and travel to "Back of the Moon" Restaurant

Guest include:

MEC Mashatile, Housing

MEC I.P. Jacobs, Education

9:30p.m.     Return to hotel. 

Optional evening activities to include:  Cigar lounge, Rosebank Jabulani Bar and Conservatory, Park Hyatt Hotel

8:35       Remarks - Senator Prentiss, President of OLBC, Head of delegation

9:30       Gauteng Legislature - Premier, Speaker of the Legislature and Gauteng Cabinet

11:10a.m.   Board bus and driving to Pretoria  

1:00p.m.   World of Welcome - The Metro Mayor of Greater Pretoria Councillor, Mrs. Nombuyiselo Joyce Ngele

1:10p.m.   Acknowledgement - Senator Prentiss, OLBC President, Head of delegation

1:20p.m.     GPMC and City Presentation

1:35p.m.      Q & A period

1:55p.m.     Mayoral Luncheon

2:45p.m.     Departure for the US Embassy Pretoria Street, Pretoria            

3:00p.m.      Meeting Mr. Delano Lewis, US Ambassador

5:00p.m.     Depart for Kasuyi home

5:30p.m.     Reception at Louis Kasuyi  

7:45p.m.     Depart for Linger Longer Restaurant

8:30p.m.     Board bus and travel to Linger Longer Restaurant for dinner

10:30p.m.    Depart for hotel

Day 5 - Friday, August 25th: Johannesburg

7:00a.m.  Breakfast and briefing

7:55a.m.  Group One: Drive to Pretoria City Council

               Group Two: Drive to University of Witwatersrand

9:00a.m.  Group One: Business, Investment, Trade &Tourism Support Center (BITTS)

-          City Planning, The Maputo Corridor

-          Economic Development, including Housing

-          Dept. of Trade & Industry: Automotive   

10:00a.m.  Depart for David Hellen-Peta High School in Petoria

10:30a.m.   Visit David Hellen-Peta High School for book donatation

11:15a.m.  Rosslyn Industrial Area Field trip, emphasis on Automotive Industry 

12:00p.m.  Luncheon arranged and provided by Mayor N. Joyce Ngele 

1:00p.m.   Ford Motor Company of South Africa Field trip: Plant tour

3:00p.m.   BITTS Center, One-on-one discussion with Mayor N. Joyce Ngele

4:30p.m.   Departure for University of Witwaterstrand

5:00p.m.   Kosovo Conference featuring Nelson Mandela

8:00p.m.   Departure for Heia Safari Restaurant

9:00p.m.   Dinner at Heia Safari Restaurant

2:30p.m.            Depart for Johannesburg 

3:00p.m.            Bus tour of Johannesburg

5:00p.m.            Return at the Hotel  

7:30p.m.            Dinner reception at the home of John and Barbara Buntman

10:00p.m.            Depart for hotel

Day 7 - Sunday, August 27th: Johannesburg

7:30a.m.        Breakfast and briefing

8:30a.m.        Depart for church service

11:15a.m.       Depart for Malbula Game Lodge

1:30p.m.         Lunch

3:30p.m.               Game drive

 6:00p.m.        Dinner & entertainment at lodge  

Day 8 - Monday, August 28th: Johannesburg

6:30a.m.        Game drive

9:00a.m.        Breakfast

11:00a.m.         Depart for Johannesburg

1:15p.m.          Lunch at Butcher Bloc, Sandton  

2:30p.m.     Shopping in Sandton

4:00p.m.     Depart for airport
