Purpose

The Smith Archive Web Space has a three fold purpose.

1) Summarize the contents

Give the user an overview of the contents of the archive, types of documents and media available for research, and various subjects covered by the archive.

2)Promote

Inform the public of the existence of the Archive. Try to attract researchers to use this valuable resource about American Contemporary music.

3)Research aid

Aid researchers by collating text, graphic and audio content into one document for convinience and combining several related sources into one document for cross referencing.

User Interface

• Navigation links are listed at the top of each page.
• There is a "go to top of page" arrow button at the bottom of each page.
• The last modification date of a document is listed at the bottom of the page.
• The Composer Profiles have left and right navigation arrows allowing forward and backward alphabetical navigation through the composer list.

Features:

There is a feature called "Smith Archive Web Space Assistance" which is available on all of the content pages. By using the "Smith Archive Web Space Assistance" the user can search the Smith Archive Web Space for Keywords and use a "Site Map" which is a chart showing all the navigation paths in the Web Space.

If your browser is Javascript compatible (Netscape 2.0 and higher, Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher) you can easily search the web for a keyword or phrase on all of the main search engines. You can also search the Library's Ziplink electronic catalog for information about the composers represented in the archive.
