b. 1936 -    Elliott Schwartz graduated from Columbia University, where he studied composition with Otto Luening, Paul Creston, and Jack Beeson. He is Professor of Music and department chairman at Bowdoin College (Brunswick, Maine), and has directed the electronic studio and annual comtemporary music festivals there since 1974. Awards and grants include a prize at the Guadeamus International Music Week and two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.
