Welcome to Titriş Höyük

December 29, 2012

This website presents the results of nine seasons of archaeological exploration at the Early Bronze Age city of Titriş Höyük in the Şanlıurfa district of southeastern Turkey conducted from 1991 to 1999. From c. 2600 to 2100 BC, Titriş Höyük was an urban center located along a natural trade route leading to the Euphrates River to the west. The site was threatened by the construction of a hydroelectric dam on the Euphrates River and salvage excavations were undertaken with the cooperation of the regional Şanlıurfa Museum. The project was co-directed by Prof. Guillermo Algaze (University of California, San Diego) and Prof. Timothy Matney (University of Akron). More...
