Mary Varga Undergoes Surgery

On Monday March 11, Mary Varga (sr) Tallmadge OH, Walsh Jesuit HS, underwent arthroscopic surgery on her right shoulder. Doctor Shannon Wolf conducted the operation.

She had a partial tear of her rotator cuff. She will require 3 months of rehabilitation before resuming full throwing activity.

Varga is a four-time All-American. She received this honor twice in the high jump, once in the javelin and once in the heptathlon. At the 2002 MAC indoor Championships she successfully defended her title in the pentathlon while throwing the shot put with her left hand.

She is redshirting this spring. She will compete for the Zips next spring. However, she is expected to compete unattached in the high jump later this spring and early summer.
