Dostal, Rizzo Receive Academic Honors

Zip junior distance standout Gigi Dostal (Massillon/ Perry) has been named GTE second-team
Academic All-District for the five-state region of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and
Tennessee.

Dostal, a second-team All-MAC cross country selection, carries a 3.97 cumulative GPA in
special education. She placed 11th (17:53.6 over 5,000 meters) when UA won the women’s
MAC cross country title last October 30 at Kent.

In addition, the Women’s Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association (WICCCA) has
recognized sophomore Michelle Rizzo (Painesville/Lake Perry) as a Division I Academic
All-American. The MAC’s individual 1999 champion, Rizzo placed 38th at the NCAA
Championship Meet and earned All-America notice. She carries a 3.32 GPA in business
administration and was one of 51 runners nationwide to be honored.

The Zips have been designated an Academic All-America Team "With Distinction" by the
WICCCA for maintaining an average GPA higher than 3.25. Seventy Division I universities are
on this elite list.
