Bobbie Hardbarger Wins the MAC 1500m
Hardbarger Named All-MAC First Team *** Seniors to Be Honored at Akron's
Michelle Rizzo, Bobbie Hardbarger, and Jaime Alton (clockwise from upper left) will be honored Saturday at the Ohio Tri-Meet. *** PRs Abound at Baldwin-Wallace A set of lifetime best performances highlighted the Akron distance group's efforts at the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational. After handily winning the 1500m Bobbie Hardbarger showed off her speed by winning her section of the 400m in a personal best time (59.4). Also displaying speed at shorter distances were Todd Moyers, who won his section of the 800m in 1:55.8 (PR) after also running a PR in the 1500m (3:59.4), and Erin Frye in the 1500m (5;02.3). Jennie Castle ran farther than usual, but the result was a new PR for the 1500m (4:41.8). Malia Milec followed her steeplechase debut with a 10-second PR in the 5000m (20:08.4). *** Castle and Hardbarger Run Jennie Castle and Bobbie Hardbarger both broke the old school record running at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Friday. Bobbie ran 2:10.42 to establish the new school record, while Jennie ran 2:10.70 to place 2nd in the second heat. Both runners also competed on Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays. Bobbie won her section of the 1500m with a time of 4:24.56 and Jennie was runner-up in the first section of the 800m. Her time was 2:11.74.
*** Distance Runners Shine at Erin Frye (10,000m) and Bobbie Hardbarger (800m and 1500m) All Ohio Champions Akron travelled to Columbus for the first Division I All Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championships since 1992. The new Jessie Owens Memorial Stadium proved to be a hospitable venue for the Zips as the meet was filled with great performances. Over the course of the two-day meet Akron distance runners crossed the finish line first in four races, crowned three champions, set one school record, four personal records, scored 43 points, and Bobbie Hardbarger met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the 1500m. Outdoors Has Begun! The Akron distance crew is off to a hot start this outdoor season. Once again leading the way is senior Bobbie Hardbarger. At the UNC Classic she placed second in the 1500m with a time of 4:33.03. She followed that performance with a nice double at the Florida Relays, winning her section of the 1500m (4:30.74) and then anchoring a school record sprint medley with a 2:09.0 split. Other notable performances include Jennie Castle's second-place finish at UNC (2:12.03), Todd Moyer's 1500m personal best performance in Florida (4:02.08), Erin Frye (18:11.68) and Jaime Alton's (18:15.6) 5000m races.
