Women to Compete at Great Lakes Regional Championships

The Akron women's cross country team travels to West Lafayette, Indiana this weekend to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championships. The Zips will face competition from schools in the states of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin on Purdue University's 6km course. Akron has faced most of the top schools in the region at the Notre Dame Invitational and MAC meets. In 1999 the Zips achieved their highest regional finish, 10th. That year Michelle Rizzo was the 3rd individual finisher and qualified for the NCAA Championships. At the NCAAs Michelle placed 37th and earned All American honors. Bobbie Hardbarger was named to the All Region team in both 2000 and 2001. This year's team will be led by All MAC performer Adriana Zalucka. Erin Frye, Morgan Sulzener, and Lisa McCaulley have all finished as Akron's number two runner at some time this year. Brandi Schoeppner, Katrina Jones, Becki Michael, and Samantha Whetherholt all hope to contribute to the team's success by finishing among Akron's top five runners.
