Women 5th, Men 10th at MAC Championships

Both the men's and women's teams surpassed pre-season expectations by two places with their 5th and 10th-place finishes in Saturday's MAC Championships. As she has all season, Adriana Zalucka led Akron, placing 3rd overall and earning All MAC first team honors in the process. She joins Judy Ervin (1992), Michelle Rizzo (1999), and Bobbie Hardbarger (2000 and 2001) as Akron's first-team All-MAC representatives. The Zips' number-two runner, Lisa McCaulley, placed 14th overall and was the second finisher among freshmen. She was followed by Erin Frye (20th), Morgan Sulzener (37th), and Brandi Schoeppner (42nd).

The men's team received an outstanding race from David Howard, who was the top freshman finisher in the race and 23rd overall. Todd Moyers (43rd), Chris Perun (51st), David Pykare (68th), and Jake Magier (72nd) contributed to Akron's team scoring in the competitive race. The men, with four of the top five either freshmen or sophomores, moved up two slots from their 2001 finish.
