Women Second, Men Third At All-Ohio Championships
Bobbie Hardbarger Captures 800 and 1,500 To Spark Akron Women
                     From: GoZips.com Story

COLUMBUS -- Senior Bobbie Hardbarger won the 800- and 1,500-meter runs to
spark the Akron women to a second-place showing at the 2002 All-Ohio Track &
Field Championships hosted by Ohio State.
Other event champions for Akron were: Kira Sims (pole vault), Tomasz Smialek (high
jump), LeShaunte Edwards (200), and Erin Frye (10,000).
In the pole vault, Sims bested her own school record by almost six inches with an
NCAA provisional jump of 12-11 1/2. It replaces the old mark of 12-6 1/4 which she
                     shared with teammate Jeanine Thomas.
Hardbarger also re-wrote the record books as her first-place time of 4:23.82 topped
her old school mark of 4:28.71 which was set just one week ago at the Texas
                     Relays.
On the men's side, freshman Tomasz Smialek can add the outdoor high jump school
record to his growing list of accomplishments as his jump of 7-0 1/2 was a quarter of
an inch better than the mark set by Dan Martin in 1986.
