Women Second, Men Fourth at All Ohio

Scoring 41 points from the middle distance and distance events the Akron women placed second at the All Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio State University. Akron swept the long races, with Morgan Sulzener winning the 10,000m (36:43.05, a new stadium record) and Adriana Zalucka the 5,000m (17:12.71, also breaking the stadium record). Sulzener, a freshman from New Philadelphia, captured her second All Ohio title (indoors she won the 3,000m), an impressive achievement from a runner who never qualified for the high school state meet in either cross country or track. In fact, Sulzener's last 3,200m of her 10,000m race (11:20.5) was faster than her high school PR for the distance (11:24). Also scoring for the Zips were Becki Michael in the 3,000m steeplechase (6th, 11:54.63), Lisa McCaulley in the 5,000m (5th, 17:50.68), and Beata Rudzinska (2nd, 2:11.58) and Jennie Castle (3rd, 2:12.61) in the 800m.

The men got PR performances from David Pykare (4:03.86), Tim Myers (4:12.61), and Adam Bray (4;13.64) in the 1,500m, and Chris Perun (15:40.19) in the 5,000m.
