Three Event Winners at Coastal Carolina; School Record at Raleigh Relays; Rudzinska Wins Texas Relays 1500m

The outdoor track season is now well underway and initial results forecast a promising season for the Zips. The season kicked off at the Coastal Carolina Invitational where Jennie Castle (400m, 58.47), Rachel Zubricky (800m, 2:15.88), and Brandi Schoeppner (1500m, 4:43.93) all won their events. David Howard, while not an event winner, ran a personal best 4:00.37 in his Akron outdoor debut and David Pykare ran 15:32.97 in his first 5000m race.

A week later the women's 4x 800m relay team (Rachel Zubricky, Jennie Castle, Emily Freudenrich, and Brandi Schoeppner) had a record-setting day running 9:09.81 to break the school record set by the foursome of Michelle Rizzo, Bobbie Hardbarger, Lisa Clark, and Jen Moore exactly five years earlier. Also running in Raleigh Becki Michael ran a near-PR 11:34.91 in the 3000m steeplechase.

A small group travelled to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays. Beata Rudzinska won the 1500m in 4:23.25 and contributed a 55.7 split on the 4x 400m relay that ran 3:44.65. Also running on that relay was Jennie Castle (57.1), Deanna Caldwell (56.0), and Lucretia Corbin (55.7). Brandi Schoeppner ran 17:52.55 in the 5000m.
