October 20, 2004 Women 8th, Men 17th at PSU Strong packs helped the Akron men's and women's cross country teams to successful finishes at the Penn State National Invitational. The women's top four of Morgan Sulzener (26th, 21:41), Beata Rudzinska (39th, 21:59), Jennie Castle, 40th, 22:00), and Brandi Schoeppner (41st, 22:00) finished with a 19-second spread to lead the Zips to a top-10 finish (of 41 teams) on the 6km course. Rachel Zubricky placed 130th and ran 23:11 as the team's fifth runner. The men's 1-5 spread was an impressive 53 seconds. David Howard re-established himself as the team's number one runner finishing the 5.2-mile course in 26:48, good for 55th place. He was closely followed by Chris Perun (58th, 26:49), Adam Bray (107th, 27;17), David Pykare (112th, 27:20), and Scott Mate (145th, 27:41).
