October 6, 2004 Zips Fare Well at Notre Dame Competing in a star-studded field at the Notre Dame Invitational the Akron women placed 19th, defeating Wisconsin, Florida, conference foe Western Michigan, Vanderbilt, and Georgia Tech. The race featured nine schools ranked among the top 30 in the country, included top-ranked Stanford, and seven of the top 10 from the Great Lakes Region. Morgan Sulzener led the Zips running 17:39, her fastest cross country time ever, to place 36th. Jennie Castle joined her with a lifetime best time running 17:53 good for 61st place. Brandi Schoeppner (18:06), Rachel Zubricky (18:51), and Becki Michael (19:39) completed the scoring for the Zips. The men finished 14th in the Gold Division race. David Howard (50th, 25:47) and David Pykare (54th, 25:51) provided the 1-2 punch for Akron. They were followed by Chris Perun (88th, 26:20), Adam Bray (89th, 26:22), and Jeff Swartzel (104th, 26:36).
