Akron Men Win Tommy Evans Invitational. Women Finish Second.

For the first time since 1999 the Akron men are the champions of the Tommy Evans Invitational. A strong pack with a 17-second spread between the top five runners enabled the Zips (27 points) to top Ashland (40 points), Buffalo (56 points), and Robert Morris (116 points). Chris Perun (21:31), Scott Mate (21:33), David Pykare (21:39), and David Howard (21:39) placed 3-4-5-6 on the challenging 4-mile course. Adam Bray was the team's fifth runner, and ninth overall, in 21:48.

Brandi Schoeppner picked up where she left off last cross country season. After a breakthrough 33rd-place finish at last year's Great Lakes Regional Championships to lead the Zips, Brandi was the women's top finisher again with an 18:46 clocking good for second place. Morgan Sulzener (18:50) was right behind in third. Jennie Castle (6th, 19:10), Rachel Zubricky (12th, 19:54), and Becki Michael (14th, 19:59) rounded out Akron's top five.
