Zips Women Top Kent State in Annual Dual Meet

The University of Akron women's track & field team handily defeated Kent State 84-66. Akron scored the maximum 8 points in each of the three middle distance/distance races with 1-2-3 finishes in the 800m and mile, and a 1-2-4 finish in the 3000m.

In the mile, all three Zips runners (Jennie Castle, 4:57.61; Brandi Schoeppner, 4:58.62; and Morgan Sulzener, 5:07.06) recorded lifetime bests. After a slow start Castle and Schoeppner broke away from the field and covered the final 800m in 2:22 (Castle) and 2:23 (Schoeppner).

Emily Freudenrich won her first collegiate final in the 800m and pulled her teammates, Jenny Richardson (2:17.43) and Schoeppner (2:17.82), to new personal bests.

Adriana Zalucka made her indoor season debut a winning one as she ran 10:13.2 to take the 3000m. Becki Michael added a 3km PR to the mile PR she achieved in the Akron Quad, running a strong 10:22.6.
