December 3, 2008 Looking
Forward to Indoors... With winter fast approaching attention turns to indoor track and for the Akron women it is a season that is eagerly anticipated. The Zips return all but three scoring members of last year's Mid-American Conference championship team and look to add to their string of four-consecutive conference indoor titles. The season opens on January 9 with Akron hosting Michigan, Pittsburgh and Buffalo in the Akron Quad. Two weeks later Akron faces cross-town rival Kent State in the Stile Athletics Field House. The Zips host two additional college indoor meets, the Akron Invitational on February 13-14 and the Zips Invitational on February 20. Also on the schedule are trips to Penn State on January 30-31 and February 6-7 and the MAC Championships at Kent State on February 27-28. Akron boasts one of the finest indoor facilities in the country. Opened in the 2005 indoor season, the centerpiece is the six-lane 300m Mondo track. The Field House seats over 1000 spectators who are treated to a live video board for viewing all of the action and displaying real-time results. Already the Stile Field House has hosted two Big East Indoor Championship meets, one MAC Indoor Championship and three Ohio high school state indoor championships.
