Terra Jones on Her Way to Hurdle Victory
Zip Track and Field traveled to Bowling Green January 22 for the Bowling Green Open. The Zips took home eleven first-place finishes, four school record performances, and an improved national qualifying mark. LaTrese Taylor led the Akron honors with a 6.91 in the 55 meter (60yd) dash. This time gave her a win, another school record and improved chances at going to Arkansas for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Jessie Sheeran also came away from the meet with a school record going 51-4.25 in the 20lb weight throw. She made this mark just taking one turn in the ring. Normally weight throwers use two to three and sometimes four turns.
After winning the long jump (19' 11.5"), Christi Smith tied her school record in the 55 meter hurdles during the preliminaries. Anxious to improve on her time Christi Smith false started in the finals. Terra Jones, the school record holder in the 100 meter and 60 meter hurdles took over and won the event.
On the men's side LeShaunte Edwards took first in both the 55 meter and the 200 meter dashes in 6.27 and 21.56. Edwards 200 time was a school record for a 200 meter size tracks. Jim DeMarco captured the pole vault title with a jump of 15' 5".
