ZIPS Claim Men's and Women's 4x100m Titles

At the 1999 MAC outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Zip sprint crew pulled of a rare double by winning both the Men's and Women's 400m relay crowns. Terra Jones started off the fireworks by contributing a truly outstanding first leg and passing the stick to Jasmine Reynolds. The Zips never relinquished the lead, Reynolds flew down the backstretch and connected on another excellent pass to frosh Deanna Norflee. D-Flee burned the turn and placed the baton in the hand of anchor LaTrese Taylor. Taylor sped home breaking the tape in 45.59, a school record by over a second. More amazing was the fact that the Zip's effort garnered them the MAC title from the "slow" heat!

Not to be outdone, the Zip men responded with their own championship effort. A re-shuffling of the
Zip order placed first year speedster LeShaunte' Edwards in the lead-off spot. 'Te responded by eating up the competition like a veritable PAC Man on the first leg. Sophomore Jamie Johnson pounded down the backstretch extending the Zip's advantage. On the third leg senior Marquai Moss turn in a rock solid performance and passed the stick to MAC 60m Champion Chad Bullett. Bullett was never challenged
as he flew down the final straightaway and crossed the finish line in a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying 39.95 seconds.

The challenge that now lies before the Zips is to "REPEAT the FEAT" at the 2000 MAC Championships.
