Le Shaunte Edwards

MAC Champion at 200m and the 400m relay, Mid-American Conference M.V.P, All-American and Olympic Trials Qualifier at 100m and 200m, a season of superlatives for LeShaunte’ Edwards. The Zips sprint sensation set out to accomplish some lofty goals in 2000 and walked away with the most outstanding season in his collegiate career. Cleveland native Edwards won the 200m, led off the Zip’s championship 4x100m relay, placed second in the 100m and ran a leg on the seventh place 1600m relay. The resulting 21 pts. garnered Te’ Most Valuable Performer honors at the MAC Outdoor Championship. A blistering 20.34 200 meters at the Ohio Quadrangular automatically qualified Edwards for the NCAA Championships. He went into the national meet with a score to settle, in 1999 he qualified for both the 100m and 200m only fall to a freak injury at the meet. This time he set his sights on the 200m final and was not to be denied. After racing to a 20.45 in the semi-finals, Edwards finished seventh in the final becoming the 1st male Zip to score points at the NCAA meet. His efforts also resulted in his being named All-American. Next stop the Olympic Trials, where Edwards placed fourth in his heat of the 200m.

LeShaunte’ has set even higher goals for 2001. With hard work dedication and effort the sky is the limit for this young man. Look for him to be a vital cog in the Zips BIG GOLD sprint machine.
