Smialek Breaks School Record in High Jump.
Women's Team Places 3rd in MAC.

Tomasz Smialek won the high jump at the MAC Outdoor Track Championships and set a new school record in the process with his 7' 1" leap to highlight the achievements of Akron athletes. His victory was his third in MAC competion after winning the indoor championship the past two years. The women's team placed third, behind Eastern Michigan and Miami, a four-place improvement from the indoor championships. The men placed ninth. Joining Smialek as MAC champions were Mary Varga in the heptathlon (5,319 points) and Beata Rudzinska, who won two events (800m, 2:10.26 & 1,500m, 4:30.07). Earning a place on the All-MAC team by finishing second were Kira Sims in the women's pole vault (12' 10"), Jennie Castle in the 800m (2:11.31), and John Russell in the men's pole vault (17' 2 ¾").
