Clinic Staff

Brian Forrester (Univ. of Akron Throws Coach)

Coach Forrester uses an intensely enthusiastic and comprehensive approach to developing the throwers

under his tutelage. In his first three seasons at Akron, he has taken the Zips Throws Program to new heights,

coaching three individual MAC Champions, and establishing The University of Akron Throwers as the premier

program in the Mid-American Conference.

 

Mike Hambrick

Former throws coach at Slippery Rock University. Coach Hambrick has coached several All-Americans

in the throws. Currently, he is working with the throws at North Allegenghy H.S. As a thrower at SRU Mike was

a 3 x PSAC Discus Champion, and a 3 x NCAA Qualifier.. Coach Hambrick won the 1995, 96, 97 and 99 Masters

National Discus Title and placed second in Master's World Games.

 

Brian Hallett

Brian is currently competing a s a post-collegiate for the Kangaroo Track Club. He has a best of 62' 10" in the shot

and was a 9 x M.A.C. Champion in the shot and discus. Brian has been training at the University of Akron for two

seasons.

Dustin Shaffer

Dustin is also training as a post-collegiate thrower in the Kangaroo Track Club and was the 2004 M.A.C. Champion

in the 35# weight and is the current Univ. of Akron school record holder in the discus ( 173' 10"). Dustin is also

assisting Coach Forrester at the University of Akron.

All current University of Akron Throwers will be assisting with clinic instruction.

Clinic Information

* Supervision will be provided during the on site lunch break.

* Participants must bring their own lunch.

* Participants should bring their throwing shoes and a water bottle.

* All- clinic session will be held in Memorial Hall.

* University of Akron Track and Field T shirts will be available for sale ($10.00)

 

Our main objective is provide the athlete and/or coach with a sound base of knowledge regarding the throws to help

them kick start the 2005 outdoor track and field season. Junior high, high school, college and masters athletes

are welcome.

 

Location

The University of Akron Big Throws Clinic will be held on the University of Akron campus.

Activities will be held in Memorial Hall and in the new Athletics Field House. The fieldhouse includes:

2 shot-put circles, and a discus circle located on 120 yards of Astor-Play Turf

300m Mondo Track

Six 42" lanes on oval

Eight 42" lanes on sprint straightaway

Dual long jump runways and pits

1/4" pyramid spikes only

spectator seating for 1100

Camp Insurance

insurance as part of the camp fees.
